Cai Guoqiang

Introduction: Boen in 1957 in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province.

Resume: Graduated from Design and Art department of Shanghai Thearterical Institute;

      Dring 1986 to 1995 he lived in Japan and in the middle term of 1980s, he began to do creation with gunpower, which was invited in China. He is one of the Chinese artists who enjoy attention most. He has influenced the western art greatly, and he has been called “Cai Guoqiang Storm”. 

Exhibitions: in 1994, he participated in the Asian Creation Exhibition which was held by Modern Art Museum of Hiroshima, his works was named There is Black Hole in the Earth and it gained the Japan Culture Prize of Prize, and he was the first Chinese since this prize came into exist in 1989.

         In 1995 he moved into New York. There he made creations with introducing Chinese medical herbs and Fengshui Theory , for instance, The Mixture of Culture.

        In 1999 he was given the prize of Gold Lion in Venice, and he became the first Chinese artist who received this award, and also it is the best prize for Chinese Artists in international competitions.

        During recent years, he successfully used gunpowder into art creation and he has paved a special way for Chinese art to go on the journey to international stage.

RepresentativeWorks: the ambitious plan of enlarging the Great Wall of 10000meters;

                  The large-scale rireworks scene in Shanghai APEC;

                  The Moving Rainbow and Wheel which was created after the 911 Incident;

                  Tornado in the U.S., which was the representative of Chinese Culture and Strength;

Moreover, he is a member of the most important creation team of the Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games as well as the chief art designer of visual effects.

With a special Chinese philosophical knowledge,  he is a modern marked artist by his unique view of points.
